How 1,200+ pet parents across the US are finding peace

When Linda lost Max, her shadow of fourteen years, one question wouldn’t leave her: who’s holding him until I get there?

Max, Linda’s shadow for fourteen years.

Linda’s dog Max was by her side for fourteen years. When he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she did what so many pet parents quietly do: she stopped talking about him, because it felt like no one understood.

She shared with us what happened next. This is her story, in her own words.

Max was my shadow for fourteen years.

He was there for every move, every heartbreak and every Christmas. He had a spot by the front door where he waited for me every single evening, and a little head tilt whenever I said his name.

“The house went quiet”

When Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge, the house went quiet in a way I can’t describe. I kept stepping over his bed by the door. His leash still hung on the hook, and I couldn’t bring myself to move it.

People meant well. “He had a long life.” “Maybe it’s time for a puppy.” But I didn’t want another dog. I wanted him. After a few weeks I stopped talking about Max, because it felt like no one understood. Only my husband knew I still cried in the car.

“Who’s holding him until I get there?”

Months later, I was scrolling late at night and saw a painting of a German Shepherd resting in Jesus’ lap, with His hand gently on the dog’s head. I scrolled past it. Then I went back.

I’ll be honest: I was sceptical. I didn’t think a picture could touch what I was carrying. I also worried it would look like a cartoon, or like some stranger’s dog.

But one thought wouldn’t leave me: who’s holding him until I get there?

So I uploaded my favourite photo of Max, the one where he’s lying on the rug with his grey muzzle on his paws. The preview was free, so I told myself I’d just look.

“It was him”

When it came back, I sat at the kitchen table and cried. These weren’t the tears I’d been crying for months. They were different.

It was him. His eyes. The white hairs on his chin. That soft, tired look he gave me in the evenings. He was resting in His hands, safe and warm, in that golden light.

I ordered the canvas. When the box arrived, I almost didn’t want to open it, because I was so afraid it would look cheap next to the preview.

It didn’t. The canvas was heavy and solid, and the colours were even richer than on my screen. You can see every brushstroke of the oil-painting style in the fur on his ears and in the soft folds of the robe. I ran my fingers over his face, and it felt like a real painting, the kind you’d see in a gallery. It came ready to hang, and it was packed so carefully it felt like someone knew how much it meant to me.

“Good morning, my boy”

Now Max hangs in the hallway, right above his old spot by the door. Every morning I bring my coffee there and say good morning to my boy. It’s the most peaceful part of my day.

I still miss him every day. But I no longer picture the end. I picture him there: held, healthy and waiting for me.

If someone you love was never “just a dog,” you can see them like this too.

Linda, about Max 🌈🐾

Safe in His hands, until you meet again

Linda’s question is the one so many pet parents carry after their best friend goes home: is he okay now?

That is why we made Resting with Him. Your boy, painted from your own photo, resting peacefully beside Jesus, His hand gently on his head. Calm. Cared for. Waiting for you.

Then we print him on a gallery canvas or a poster, so he can come home and stay where you can see him every day.

“Seeing him resting safely in His hands gives me so much peace every single morning.”

“Will it really look like him?”

It’s the first thing everyone asks, and it matters. A painting of a dog that almost looks like yours wouldn’t comfort anyone.

So every portrait starts from your own photo: his face, his markings, the grey on his muzzle, the way his ears sat, that little head tilt. You see him before you decide anything. If something isn’t quite him yet, we change it, free, before anything is printed.

“Will it hurt too much to look at?”

Many pet parents worry about this. Photos from the last weeks can bring back the hardest days. This is different. It doesn’t show him the way he left. It shows him at peace, healthy again, with a gentle hand on his head.
